Support Mt. Sentinel's Solar Panel Plan

At a Special Open Board Meeting on Friday, May 14, 2021, the Board of Education of School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake), passed its 2021-2022 annual budget.  At the same special open meeting, the Board also authorized a $27,000 contribution towards the “Wildcat Solar Panel Plan” in the 2021-2022 budget, which will be part of the Board’s separate “Capital Operations Budget” for 2021-2022.  For more information about the approval of this exciting project see District news

Our plan allows our District to invest a relatively small amount of money to set up the entire solar panel system and then allows students to fundraise for the panels that will provide instant payback for this initial investment.  If we are able to fundraise the entire 190 panel system over the next several years our school will reduce electricity usage by 45 - 50% and will save our school district approximately $300,000.

We are hoping that our families will help support us – either by sharing on social media, by word of mouth, or by making a personal/business donation.  SD8 is a registered non-profit society and anyone making a donation over $200.00 can be provided with a tax receipt.

  • Donations under $200.00 can be made from our school website see >> Make A Payment.  Select drop down menu FEE TYPE >> DONATIONS & FUNDRAISING >> enter Solar Panel Plan in the details.
  • Donations can also be made on our GoFundMe Page
  • We encourage you to use the GoFundMe Page to share our project with others outside of our school networks.

If you are interested in making a direct donation without using GoFundMe or using our website, please contact teacher sponsor Danny Leeming  (Danny.Leeming@sd8.bc.ca) or Principal Shellie Maloff (Shellie.Maloff@sd8.bc.ca).

Thank you for your support,
